Personal Bio

Dr Sophia Opel is a highly trained consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon based at the Montrose Clinic London.

She specialises in skin cancer excision and reconstruction, hand surgery, scar management, and trauma reconstruction, seamlessly blending surgical precision with compassionate patient care.

Ms Opel's focus on skin cancer involves close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including our private dermatologists and oncologists. She has extensive experience in the excision and reconstruction of skin cancers, particularly those located in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face.

As a consultant working in a Major Trauma Centre, she has vast experience in reconstructing significant bone and soft tissue injuries using advanced techniques like skin grafts and flaps. In her role as a hand surgeon, she effectively treats a range of hand ailments, including carpal tunnel syndrome, ganglions, and Dupuytren’s disease.

A graduate of University College London, Ms Opel received a Certificate of Merit in Medicine, a BSc(Hons) in Immunology and achieved an MSc in Plastic Surgery with a Certificate of Distinction. Her higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery was completed in world-class plastic surgery centres in London, and she is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (England).

She earned prestigious fellowships in microsurgery, aesthetics, and trauma reconstruction before her consultant appointment at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, subsequently moving to her current position at Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals in London.

Ms Opel’s research focused on innovative uses of Botulinum toxin beyond aesthetics, further showcasing her commitment to advancing the field. She has numerous academic publications, including a notable book chapter on skin cancer in a leading textbook for plastic surgery trainees, along with multiple international and national presentations.
